Ashton's Mechling Bed & Breakfast,
located in the charming Esplanade Historic District,
close to the French Quarter, City Park, and the Fair
Grounds, offers Southern hospitality from a bygone era.
Since Keith and Claudine Mechling started the Mechling's
Guest House in 1989, it has hosted many guests from
around the world. When the Mechling's retired, their
daughter, Karma, and her husband Patrick Ashton became
the second generation to offer gracious accommodations in
the classic New Orleans style.
This center-hall Creole style Greek
revival mansion was completed in 1861, just before the
outbreak of the Civil War. As you enter through the
arched wrought-iron gate, you are surrounded by lush
greenery, and welcomed onto the large front veranda.
Inside the main house, fifteen foot ceilings, key
doorways, spacious rooms, and fine furnishings tell you
this is no ordinary house. You can enjoy relaxing in the
beautiful parlor, with its original carved marble mantel
and magnificent chandelier; or wander the gardens and
discover the majestic ancient oak tree that dominates the
rear yard.
There are four guest rooms in the main house, and four rooms
soon to be opened in the rear service wing. Be sure to get a tour
of these rooms which include an old wine cellar and original
kitchen with an cooking hearth fireplace. All rooms are large,
with private baths, phone (with modem port and voice mail), color
cable TV, individual climate control (central Heat & A/C),
marble mantles, ceiling fans, robes, and sitting areas.
Don't forget...the second "B" stands for Breakfast. A
full gourmet breakfast is included, with your choice of fresh fruit,
baked goodies, pastries, and delicious Southern or Creole
specialties.
One or both of the Ashton's is always available to assist with
suggested activities, restaurant recommendations/reservations,
and anything else to make your visit a one-of-a-kind experience.
